Home / WWP- Frequently Asked Questions What is the Wounded Warrior Project? The Wounded Warrior Project was founded on the principle that veterans are our nation’s greatest citizens. The WWP is a non-profit organization that works to provide tangible support for the service men and women who have been severely injured in Iraq, Afghanistan and other locations around the world. These injuries are traumatic amputations, gunshot wounds, burns and blast injuries that retire these brave warriors from military service. What do they do? The WWP provides programs and services designed to ease the burdens of the wounded and their families, aid in the recovery process and smooth their transition back into civilian life. Their work begins at the bedsides of the severely wounded where they provide comfort items and necessities, counseling and support for families. They help speed rehabilitation and recovery through adaptive sports and recreation programs, raising patients’ morale and exposing them to the endless possibilities of life after an injury. Finally, they provide a support mechanism for those who have returned home by providing outreach and advocacy on issues like debt and disability payments that will affect their families’ future. How are they different from other organizations? There are many military service organizations that provide services to active-duty service members and their families and many veterans’ service organizations that provide services and opportunities for fraternal interaction to veterans upon their discharge from service. Few organizations devote their resources to assisting the severely wounded during this critical period. WWP fills this vital unmet need, bringing comfort, support and aid to severely injured service members and their families during this challenging time in their lives. What is the BPOE 2092 Wounded Warrior Project Partnership? This partnership is formed between the St. Mary’s County Elks Lodge and twenty corporate sponsors to raise money and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project through a year long media and event campaign. The media campaign will include a mix of television, radio, newspaper, road signage and more to achieve a weekly saturation of the tri-county area. The media campaign will promote upcoming events and sponsors, include press releases and top of mind awareness (TOMA) ads. The event campaign will include dinners, shows, comedy nights, golf/bowling tournaments, music festivals and more. Events will promote our partners based on sponsor level. What is the BPOE 2092 Wounded Warrior Project Committee? This committee was formed after our 2009 Charity Ball spotlighted the WWP and many of our members thought we could do more than just spend a few hours one evening raising money and learning more. From these early meetings came the idea to form a partnership with 20 corporate sponsors and raise not only money but also increase the public’s awareness of the WWP and what they do. To accomplish this we will launch an aggressive media campaign and hold more than twelve events throughout the year to benefit the WWP. The purpose of this committee is to coordinate and staff all media, marketing and events providing our sponsoring partners with a turn key opportunity to support the Wounded Warrior Project and gain community recognition and support.
